Canola oil

Canola oil is derived from the canola plant, which is itself derived from the rapeseed plant. The canola plant (Brassica napus L.) was developed in the 1970s using traditional plant breeding techniques.

Canola crops are used to create canola oil and canola meal, which is commonly used as animal feed. There are claims that canola oil is one of the healthiest vegetable oils, as it reduces disease-related factors and improves health.

Canola is a good choice for cooking and baking because it’s low in artery-clogging saturated fat (lower than olive oil) and high in heart-healthy mono- and polyunsaturated fats.

Canola oil has a neutral flavor that makes it a perfect addition to any meal. Canola oil can be used to saute, grill or even fry with its extremely high cooking temperature. Canola oil can also be used as a fuel alternative to diesel and a component of items made with plasticizers, such as tires.

Canola is often touted as one of the healthiest oils due to its low level of saturated fat. Fatty acid breakdown of canola oil:

*Monounsaturated fat: 64%
*Polyunsaturated fat: 28%

Canola oil is a good source of vitamins E and K and contains a variety of fatty acids, including omega-3 and -6 fatty acids.
