Sugar ingredient in food

Refined white sugar and most brown sugar are processed either from sugar cane or sugar beets.

Many food products contain added refined sugar, which is specifically included by food manufacturers to give the food additional sweetness and make it taste appealing.

Sugar also adds tenderness, texture, stability, and extended life to cookies and also helps browning. Sugar are mostly sold as ingredients in commercially processed foods.

One of the most important sugar is corn syrup. Corn syrup used as sweeteners, but are used to thicken foods such as ketchup, to add body, to prevent crystallization in frozen foods and ice-cream and to retain moisture.

 In sugar based candies, the sugar is manipulated to achieve some desired changes in the texture of the candy. The most common sweetener used in candies and chocolate is sucrose the sugar from cane and sugar beets.

Other than candies, sugar also used in desserts beverages, cakes, ice cream., icings, cereals and baked goods.

To make up for the flavor scarified by low fat ingredients some food manufacturers have increased the sugar content in their products.

Some foods, such as cakes, cookies, and candy bars, have a high proportions of refined sugar in their ingredients.

Consequently, consumption of sugar, honey and other sweeteners has increased dramatically in the past decade.
